Exhibition Overview

Situated in the heart of the APY lands, the dynamic centre of Tjungu Palya never ceases to amaze with consistency and style. Over the last four years we have had the pleasure of showing works by well-known artists such as Maringka Baker, the late Kunmanara Tiger, and Ginger Wikilyiri who have set the high standard expected from this region. Continuing the tradition, this new exhibition is a showcase of the next generation of artists forging their way with both family influences and their own individual styles.

This show presents a collection of small works that arrived in the gallery in late July, and has already proved so popular that most of the collection has already been sold.  Nevertheless, we are offering this online show as an opportunity to become familiar with the younger artists and their work.

The precision and exactitude of Mr Baker’s grand-daughters Teresa Baker and Kani Tunkin will already familiar to Tjungu Palya collectors.

Interestingly, the linear compartments of Maringka Baker’s work can be seen in her lineage: daughter Elaine Woods and grand-daughters Julie and Venita Woods presenting similar form albeit a different palette

Matthew Tiger, grandson of Kunmanara Tiger, only started painting this year.  He uses his grandfathers memory as inspiration and is learning from other custodians of the Piltati Tjukurpa, Keith Stevens and Ginger Wikiliyiri, to develop his painting.
