Tjukurpa kunpu nganana kanyini pulka – Our stories, we hold strong
9 Jul 2010 until 6 Aug 2010 at 8 Parap Place, Parap, Darwin, 0820, Australia
This amazing group exhibition from Tjala Arts is part of an ongoing collaboration between this art centre and Outstation. The show features some of the art centres established and rising stars including Tjungkara Ken, Tjampawa Katie Kawiny, Wawiriya Burton, Freddy Ken, Sylvia Kantjupayi Ken, Ruby Williamson and others.
Tjala Arts was started by the women of Amata in 1997 and was originally called Minymaku Arts (Ladies Arts). It was renamed in 2006 to reflect the involvement of men in the Art Centre. Tjala is the Pitjantjatjara word for honey ant – a favourite bush food. One of the significant creation stories for Amata relates to Tjala.
