Outstation travelled to Singapore recently to experience the 2008 Art Singapore and the Singapore Biennale. While there were some works of interest at the Biennale, the work tended to be let down by the exhibition space.
Art Singapore 2008, gave a fascinating view of the state of the arts in the South east asian region and beyond. On the first day of the fair, the Singapore economy went into recession and this gave the fair a dramatic back drop. The world economy was the talk across the city and there is no doubt that the nervousness surrounding the recent turmoil had art buyers thinking before making a purchase. Having said this there were reports of some exhibiting galleries making significant sales during the the fair.
