Outstation turns 1!
Welcome to the third newsletter for Outstation - art from art centres. It has been just over a year since Outstation Gallery opened in Parap. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and the positive input we have recieved from so many people since the gallery opened.
Our first year has been an amazing one! Visiting each of the art centres has been a highlight. These trips have re-affirmed the vital role that art centres play in remote community life, providing not only income and employment opportunities but also having positive impacts within the broader community. These centres build on their success with the support of dedicated art centre managers whose passion and enthusiasm is inspirational. It has been fantastic to get to know the artists and art centre coordinators ans to build strong relationships with them.

Printingpa Ngaanya Yanku Kayili
Warakurna Artist’s paintings travelling North - Warakurna Artists inaugural Darwin exhbition opens this Friday the 12th June at 6pm.
The art centre, Warakurna Artists, is an energetic, creative and happy place, where men and women, young and old, paint and share Tjukurrpa (law and culture) and contemporary tales. The paintings are vibrant and diverse, reflecting each artist’s unique style, stories and connection to country. Passing on these important stories to young people is a critical means of keeping culture strong and vital. The art centre is fully owned and governed by Aboriginal people and also represents artists from the nearby community of Wanarn.
Warakurna is a remote community situated in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands on the Great Central Road, Western Australia, near the Northern Territory border, approximately 330km from Uluru. The township of approximately 180 people is located next to the Giles meteorological weather station, and nestled amongst the spectacular Rawlinson Ranges in the Gibson Desert. The exhibition at Outstation will feature new paintings by: Tommy Mitchell, Tjapartji Bates, Eunice Yunurupa Porter, Peter Tjarluri Lewis, Myra Cook, Carol Maayatja Golding, Tjunka Lewis & Rachel Jennings.
