Durrmu Arts

Peppimenarti, an insolated community 80 kms south-west of Daly River, is home to the small but dynamic Durrmu Arts. Incorporated in 2007 their contemporary practice dates further back; after the introduction of acrylic painting in 2001, local artist Regina Wilson won the painting prize in the 2003 Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award – General Painting Award, and is still practicing today with her work held in national collections.

Durrmu Arts produce work in a range of media with particularly strong textile designs, exhibiting a refined edge to their patterning.  Durrmu translates to dot painting and is attributable to the ability of the work to transfer equally well across a range of media: designs that were traditionally made in fibre or on the body are now painted on canvas or in textile designs.
