Country, connection to country and the strong history – both ancestral, cultural history, and more recent family history – powers our latest, dazzling Iwantja show.
‘Piriyakutu – Spring’ opens Saturday 13th July and we are honoured to welcome back 13 fabulous artists of Iwantja including Betty Chimney, Nellie Coulthard, Yatjiki Culllinan, Rosalind Tjanyari, Maringka Burton and 2024 Wynne Prize and 2024 NATSIAA finalist Rene Sundown.
Last year we shared an extraordinary suite of nine Emily Cullinan paintings, sold as a single work – and in ‘Piriyakutu’ she has delivered another stunning collection – the parts are great, but the sum is truly glorious.
It is also a real pleasure to have in the show a number of collaborative works by Alec Baker and Eric Barney. This year they worked together under the mentorship of Vincent Namatjira as part of a National Gallery of Victoria First Nations Commissions program – and the result is magnificent.
Also keep your eye out for Eric’s sister – Daisy – her loose, dynamic works on an electric blue background are really powerful.
But all that is just the beginning. Did we mention 13 artists! So please take a look at the links below and join us upstairs from Saturday 13 July for ‘Piriyakutu – Spring’
