In 2009, Outstation partnered with Iwantja Arts for our first joint exhibition. It featured founding Iwantja artist, Alec Baker, and we are thrilled to have his work back in our much anticipated 2022 Iwantja show ‘Ngura kala kutjuparinganyi – shifting colours of country’.
Featuring 12 phenomenal artists and a magnificent collaborative work, this exhibition is as big and bold as the rocky desert country where it is born, in the remote north-west of South Australia.
It is hard to know where to turn first – perhaps to Nellie Coulthard, Betty Chimney and Raylene Walatinna who were all finalists in this year’s Wynne prize for their incredible depictions of country, or to Priscilla Singer and Rosalind Tjanyari who are definitely artists to watch. There are also a number of stunning works from Maringka Burton, and an intensely detailed painting from Julie Yatjitja.
Make some time for Eric Barney too, who is painting in a new and very exciting way.
There is so much to see, each work is a masterpiece sharing important stories of country, and all speaking to the artistic powerhouse that is Iwantja Arts.
