Rachael Mipantjiti Lionel – Kapi munu Kupi-Kupi (Water and Whirlwind)

This wild, beautiful exhibition, is Rachael Mipantjiti Lionel’s first solo show and is a testament to her incredible talent and skill as an artist.

Rachael comes from a renowned family of Ernabella artists.  Her mother is Yurpiya Lionel and her grandmother was senior painter Pantjiti Lionel.   We have had the pleasure of presenting Rachael’s work since 2016, and it has only grown in its complexity and fluidity.

“I started painting one design like the other artists and my grandmother said “No, not like that.  You’ve got to feel it in your heart, not from your head, from your heart.”  I started painting this way and it just kept going and I can’t believe it.  It started from a dream and now it has become real on canvas.” – Rachael Mipantjiti Lionel.
