PUPUNI JILAMARA
Outstation and Ngaruwanajirri Art Centre from Nguiu, Tiwi Islands, are proud to present Pupuni
Jilamara, the first solo exhibition by Jane Margaret Tipuamantumirri.
Drawing inspiration from her environment, Tipuamantumirri’s works on paper feature delicate
renditions of Pupuni Jilamara (good design), traditional body paint designs in watercolour and
gouache.
Ngaruwanajirri is a Tiwi word meaning “helping one another”. The Art Centre has been in operation
in Nguiu, Bathurst Islands, since August 1994 and supports around sixteen Tiwi Artists.
Members of Ngaruwanajirri create traditonal and contemporary arts and crafts.
Works from Ngaruwanajirri have previuosly been selected for the National Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Island Awards, travelled in touring exhibitions troughout Australia and have become part of
public and private collections in Australia and overseas.
