Iwantja Arts is back! And dare we say, better than ever.
This year’s Iwantja survey show gives us ten of the greats : Betty Chimney; Vicki Yatjiki Cullinan; Emily Cullinan; Nellie Coulthard; Maringka Burton; Rosalind Tjanyari, Priscilla Singer; Raylene Walatinna; Eric Barney and Alec Baker.
Intensely detailed and exquisitely coloured, Uwankara Kutjutu – All Together brings us the large-scale desert works Iwantja is famous for, including a breathtaking 198 x 198cm work by Nellie Coulthard and a similarly sized masterpiece from Maringka Burton. But make sure you also take a look at the suite from Emily Cullinan – this stunning series of 9 smaller works fit together into a truly majestic expression of country.
We are also loving the recents paintings by Yatjiki Cullinan – epic renditions of Tjukurpa (ancestral stories) in rich reds and splashes of pink.
What unites all the works though is their profound connection to the rugged rocky landscape around Indulkana. They map not just the waterholes, bush tucker and boulders, but the stories, the families, the history and culture of this rich country.
Each painting is an entire world – together they form Uwankara Kutjutu – All Togther, our 2023 Iwantja survey show.
